Ray Wilkins would like one of John Terry or Frank Lampard managing Chelsea

Former Chelsea assistant Ray Wilkins believes John Terry and Frank Lampard should get a shot at managing the Blues at sometime in the future. Lampard called time on his professional career earlier this year whilst Terry is currently plying his trade in the Championship with Aston Villa., who are vying for top-flight promotion.

In a report covered by The Mail, Wilkins believes the club's legends should be offered a chance to impress, should the managerial vacancy prop up in the coming seasons, he said: "Why not?" They took a chance with AVB [Andre Villas-Boas] all those years ago. Why not give it to them and let them have a bash at it? They know the club inside out, they are absolutely adored by everybody at the football club and it can only be a good thing that those two are given half an opportunity."

A number of former players have started their careers in management from the lower divisions but Wilkins believes the winning mentality from Terry and Lampard's days makes them prepared for the bigger challenge, he added: "When you have been a top, top footballer, you understand the mentality of the top, top player."

Regardless of Wilkins' comments, the Blues are currently in good hands with Antonio Conte, although the Italian has indirectly hit out at the club's hierarchy over the reduced squad depth in terms of experience when compared to other sides.

Chelsea have lost just one of the last 14 matches across all competitions, and they will be aiming to return to the second spot when they face off versus Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. The Blues are winless in the last three outings versus the Gunners, but they still have a strong record in the top-flight with just one defeat against their city rivals in more than six years.
