Frank Lampard raves about Derby County’s summer signings
Derby County manager Frank Lampard has revealed his delight after the club secured the signings of Mason and Harry Wilson from Chelsea and Liverpool respectively. The duo have joined the Rams on season-long loan deals for the campaign and Lampard has hailed their characters ahead of the 2018/19 season.
Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: “Two players that I’ve chased because I know the qualities they have. I know Mason first hand from Chelsea and Jody (Morris) worked closely with him in the Chelsea youth team. Followed him there and to Vitesse last season, where he had a fantastic season. the guidance of Mauricio Pochettino over the past four seasons and much of this has come about from the prowess of Kane in the forward department. .Harry, everyone saw what he did last season with Hull in the Championship. Both of them great characters and I think they are both going to bring so much to us hopefully.”
Mount has been highly-rated by the Blues’ academy for his goalscoring exploits as a midfielder and he most recently featured for Vitesse Arnhem on loan where contributed towards 23 goals across all competitions. On the other hand, Wilson has earned a similar feedback from the Reds youth system and the Welshman’s qualities were on display in the Championship last term as he shined for Hull City during the second half of last season.
As such, the Premier League-based graduates should be eager to make an impression for the Rams next term and, hopefully, Lampard can become the manager to end the club’s decade-long wait for a Premier League return. Derby have managed to reach the playoffs on most occasions over the past few seasons but they have struggled to cross the final hurdle to make their top-flight comeback. Derby were ousted from the promotion hunt in the playoff semi-final last term where they lost to Fulham by a 2-1 aggregate.
