Frank Lampard Believes Liverpool Are The Best European Team This Season

Chelsea favourite Frank Lampard believes Liverpool have been by far the most impressive team in the Champions League this season. The Merseyside giants booked their place in the final of the competition against Real Madrid on Wednesday night after they beat AS Roma by a 7-6 scoreline across both legs.

During the game, Lampard spoke positively about the Reds on BT Sport, saying: “This Liverpool team in this competition, progressively so as it’s gone on more and more, they’ve found a way to really produce. No one can handle them so far. They’ve defended tight as a unit, they attack with blistering pace and support each other in attack. There’s no team that has matched them so far. If they keep that momentum, they’ve got every chance. They’ve played differently to everyone in Europe this year.”

The Reds suffered a couple of minor setbacks during the group phase of the elite competition but they have since dominated the proceedings with at least five goals scored in each of the knockout phases. Their toughest challenge yet is expected to come against Real Madrid in Kyiv and victory over Los Blancos would hand the Reds their first European title since 2005.

Jurgen Klopp has failed to guide the Reds to silverware in each of the previous two finals in the League Cup and Europa League respectively but the current crop of players have been instilled with plenty of confidence from the front where the trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane have netted close to 100 goals between them across all competitions.

Nevertheless, their defence remains a cause of concern after letting in six goals during their semi-final tie against AS Roma and they need to find a fix in the right-back department, in particular, where Trent Alexander-Arnold has struggled to keep the opposition at bay when presented with pace and trickery.
