Dennis Wise worried about Lampard’s expected recruitment at Chelsea

Former Chelsea star Dennis Wise is unsure over the recruitment of Frank Lampard as the new Blues head coach. The west London giants recently ended their association with Maurizio Sarri and reports have since claimed Lampard will take over at the helm with talks at an advanced stage to release him from Championship side Derby County.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Wise said that Lampard could be afforded with more time in the head coach role, considering the club will be under a transfer ban for the next year. He added that the move has been much fancied among the Blues’ faithful, though he is fearful about the response, should the Blues drop off from competing for potential silverware next term.

“I think that gives Frank more time, by having the ban. But at the end of the day Chelsea are a Champions League team, they want to finish in the top four. They don’t want to finish in the top six, I don’t think that’s something that we want. I think as Chelsea fans you want to be competing at the highest level and winning trophies. We will find out in time how it’s going to pan itself out. At the moment because Frank from a playing point of view, from a personal point of view, everyone loves him at Chelsea.”

The Blues are currently under a transfer ban for the next 12 months after breaking rules pertaining over the treatment of under-age players. They have recently appealed over the sanction at the Court of Arbitration for Sport and it remains to be seen whether they would apply for the freeze once the hearing date for the case is announced.

Despite the embargo, the Blues can still sign players, who had plyed their trade on loan with them last season. Mateo Kovacic and Gonzalo Higuain fall into that category and reports claim that the former has a good chance of signing a permanent deal with the Europa League holders this summer.
