CHELSEA GO SECOND

Chelsea managed to go second in the Barclays Premier league after a convincing 4-1 win over Cardiff city at Stamford Bridge. Frank Lampard played an influential role in the match. He had just returned from helping England qualify for the World Cup.

After the encounter, Lampard heaped praise on his Chelsea teammates by saying that they were extremely good throughout the 90 minutes. Chelsea did not start to the match well after conceding an early goal due to a lapse in concentration. David Luiz allowed Cardiff to open the scoring when he could have easily prevented it.

Samuel Eto'o, though, helped Chelsea get back on level terms just before half-time by pouncing on a mistake by the Cardiff goalkeeper. This allowed Eden Hazard to equalise the match, and the Belgian proved to be a constant thorn for Cardiff. He scored his second of the game in the second half, while Oscar also scored after on as a substitute. Eto'o opened his Chelsea account by scoring the goal that put Chelsea ahead in the match. Lampard has said that it is always not easy to get that from the international break and start performing straightaway. Due to the suspect, he is pleased to get the three points against Cardiff.

"It was a very tough game for us. Sometimes after internationals you can be a bit slow to start, but I thought Cardiff were very well organised. Having gone 1-0 down, it's a very good result for us. It is difficult, but we've got a big squad here. It's important that we try and stay fresh, the manager changes it sometimes. If you get a positive result internationally, which a lot of us did, you can bring that back with you," said Lampard. Chelsea's next match will be away in the Champions league against Schalke.
