CHELSEA CAN WIN THINGS

Following the hugely impressive 5-1 win over Tottenham in the FA Cup semi-final, Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has said that this victory alone shows that Chelsea are capable of matching Barcelona in the two clubs face each other in the Champions League semi-final on Wednesday night.

Chelsea have been drawn against Barcelona in a repeat of the hugely controversial 2009 Champions League semi-final.

Chelsea are undefeated in their last five matches against the Catalan club. Barcelona knockout Chelsea back then after the English club were denied numerous clear-cut penalty shouts. Even though Frank Lampard insisted that it was not about revenge, he would like to beat Barcelona this time around.

Chelsea opened the scoring in the match against Tottenham with a hugely impressive strike from Didier Drogba. The Ivorian collected a pass from Frank Lampard and managed to outmuscle former Chelsea defender William Gallas before hitting a powerful shot past former Chelsea goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini.

Mata then scored a controversial goal, although Tottenham soon brought the game in the balance the goal from Gareth Bale. Following the goal, however, Tottenham collapsed after Ramires managed to score in the 77th minute. Lampard then found the net with a wonderful freekick before Florent Malouda completed the rout by scoring from a smart pass from Mata, to make Chelsea favourites to win the FA Cup trophy for the sixth time in their history (according to the latest fa cup final odds)

“Beating Tottenham like this has given us a real confidence boost. It’s not like we’re going from a bad defeat to a game against the best team in the world. We have a lot of belief in ourselves. We have to take them on over two games, it’s going to be very tough but if we play with the same focus and ability we showed against Tottenham we have a chance," Lampard said after the match. Fernando Torres was rested for this match and is likely to start against Barcelona.
