Bosnich says Lampard may have angered the board with his goalkeeper decision
Despite this, there have been question marks over his distribution and saving ability and during the current campaign, he is ranked as one of the worst performing shot-stoppers in the Premier League. As such, it was no surprise that he was dropped to the bench for the Leicester City clash before the break and the trend has continued with Caballero keeping his spot for the recent Manchester United game.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Bosnich believes Lampard has taken a huge decision with Caballero in goal, considering the Argentine is at the twilight of his playing career. He added that Arrizabalaga’s axe may not go well with the board, given the record fees paid to lure him from the Basque country 19 months ago.
“It’s a big risk from Frank, he’s (Caballero) obviously not the long-term solution so you’re essentially devaluing a £70million player. You have to make big decisions as a manager and that’s what Frank Lampard has done but I don’t think it will be a popular one with the powers that be here,” he was quoted as saying by the publication.
Chelsea’s form has nosedived over the past few weeks and they are currently without a league win from four matches. Their advantage over fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur has reduced to a single point as a result and the teams are set to face each other at Stamford Bridge this weekend. A defeat could see the Blues drop to as low as seventh on the table, should the other results go against them.
